PAWS Campaign Activities
As part of our PAWS Campaign, PARD members participate
in numerous activities to reach out to others
in our community in order to promote a dialog
regarding the proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter. Two
of our most crucial activities are letter writing
and petitioning.
Letter Writing
PARD Members continuously write our city government
with requests for a public meeting to be held
as per city code. These letters have thus far
gone unanswered as the city has refused for a
public meeting to be held. Further, we, as part
of our goal to communicate the concerns we have
regarding the Wal-Mart issue, have written many
letters to news sources in the area which have
been published on a frequent basis.
Petitioning
Part of the concern that PARD has expressed regarding
the Wal-Mart proposal has been that citizens of
the area have had little to now opportunity to
have their specific concerns heard and to have
city management understand that a large segment
of the population here does not want to see a
Wal-Mart Supercenter built. Further, our community
has had a desire to tell Wal-Mart that they are
simply unwelcome. Are petition campaign serves
those purposes: collect the names, phone numbers,
and addresses of members of the community who
wish to tell Wal-Mart that they think Wal-Mart
should simply look elsewhere, as they are unwanted
here.
PARD really needs your help to make our petition
drive a success for the PAWS Campaign. Please
volunteer your time to collect signatures.
Several retailers have joined us in our efforts
to stop the Wal-Mart Superstore from being built
by granting us permission to petitiion at their
location or having copies of their petitions on
the counters.
We would like to thank:
- Bookpeople
- Brused Books
- Dissmores
- HyperSpud Sports
- Les Schwab Tires
- Moscow Food Coop
- Rite Aid
- Safeway
If you would like to petition, please come to
one of our meetings.
There you can meet with the petition
coordinator.
