Mailing Address and Donations
The Board of the Pullman Alliance for Responsible Development asks for your financial help to carry out its vital work. As you know, P.A.R.D. is a nonprofit corporation organized to represent Pullman-area citizens concerned with promoting responsible, sustainable, democratically reviewed economic development in the City of Pullman.
We should remind you that P.A.R.D.’s long legal battle against the City’s unwise approval of a proposed 223,000 sq. ft. Wal-Mart superstore on Bishop Blvd. continues to be effective. The District III Court of Appeals in Spokane has reviewed all briefs in the appeal and has now called for oral arguments, an action taken only when the court finds the merits of appellants’ cases particularly strong. Your contributions will aid this appeal, the validity of which has become obvious (Wal-Mart legally could have begun building any time after winter 2006 but clearly has decided not to do so, in our view recognition of the inappropriateness of a site that would inject 11,000 additional car trips onto the congested arterial serving Pullman’s community hospital and major health care and assisted-living facilities).
In our opinion, P.A.R.D.’s monitoring of Bishop Blvd. growth, of proposed residential and commercial projects downtown, and of recent expansions of the city to the north and south involves matters vital to the future economic and social welfare of the community. Your donation will help support the organization’s advertising, educational outreach, and promotion of democratic decision-making about growth—most recently in its testimony to the Planning Commission about the City’s projected Urban Growth Areas. P.A.R.D. supports good projects for Pullman, ones that bring jobs with living wages, help keep our retail dollars in the community, promote local businesses, and promise fiscal, social, and environmental sustainability. Your donation is vital to these tasks.
